A different type of Metta
In the mindfulness teachings, Metta is often translated as “loving kindness” and is used to describe a now popularized specific type of meditation practice. However, “Metta” has significance across several cultures and traditions, loosely defined as a combination of benevolence and the deep care for the happiness of others and self.
I was drawn to psychology studies by way of personal experiences with yoga and mindfulness meditation. It has been a delight to see those teachings collide with modern psychology and many of the interventions and techniques we use in “third wave” CBTs today, stem back to ancient practices. If you have an interest in integrating mindfulness into your therapy, just ask, you are in the right place.
I chose to register this practice under the name Metta Mind Psychology as an ode to what brought me to psychology in the first place and what keeps me here today.
